15 stitches and 5 hours in the ER, our foreign exchange student, Mana will be able to give a first hand account to her country of the quality of care of American hospitals. Around 4 pm on Saturday, she sliced her leg open on our steamer trunk while playing around with the kids. The cut was over 4 inches long and down to the muscle. She was amazingly brave, which we already knew since had survived our house for over 4 days and counting.
The tour group that Mana is here with, was great and had four representatives in her room within an hour. It was an interesting 4 hours being the outsider and not understanding much or what was said. Thanks to some translation, I learned several things about Japanese culture that I had no idea about.
When we finally got home, both of us were starving. Al made us some Japanese comfort food of ramen-type noodles and since we didn't have seaweed or pickled plums, he added an egg. Mana was very happy to get to eat something that looked recognizable. She has had a remarkable attitude about every thing and it looks like she will still be able to participate in all the groups activities.
I think we have a steamer trunk for sale. Any takers?
