Sometimes I am more daring then I should be when it come to errands. I hadn't done a big shopping trip since returning home from vacation. Today, I attempted to go grocery shopping with four. AJ was at Art Camp. It would have been easier if he was there. All four needed naps but we had 90 minutes before we could pick AJ back up. There was only room in the cart for Jake, and by checkout time there wasn't even room for him. Forty minutes of whispering, "If you hold onto the cart, you get a cookie when we get to the car" proved unsuccessful. Opening up the refrigerator shelves, throwing random items into the cart, and walking along the "beam" of the freezers was much more enticing.
Once we got in the checkout line, everyone insisting on helping unload the groceries. Aly & Caleb missed the conveyor belt so many times with the chips for our camping trip, that I think we will need to take spoons with us to eat them. Jake thought that it was fun to squish each loaf of bread 4-5 times before setting it down; we will be having sandwich trifles for the next week. Abby thought that each meat product should have some bite marks in the plastic before we could take them home.
Aldi's is one of those places where you bag your own groceries. I have learned that it is easier to take my groceries out to the car and bag them while the kids are strapped down in their seats. Of course, today the cashier couldn't get my original 1 cart back into 1 cart and had to use 2. Getting to the car was interesting. There was room for Jake to sit, but no one else. I pushed the 1st cart with Jake and Abby "helping" me push and behind me pulled the 2nd cart stacked to the rim with Caleb and Aly holding on behind. Unfortunately, I was too focused on getting the first cart through the 2nd exit door and squished poor Caleb in between the 2nd cart and 1st exit door.
Just another day in the Burns Family.
