The Demise of the Tooth Fairy

AJ lost one of his front teeth on Saturday. He put it in his special football tooth pillow (an Al heirloom) that night. Sunday morning as he came to snuggle in bed with me, he popped up, "I didn't check to see what the tooth fairy had left me." Al had already left for church meetings and I realized that we hadn't done anything. I told AJ to wait until I "went to the bathroom" and then I would go up with him. I ran to the change drawer took out some quarters. Then sprinted up to his room. I was unsuccessful to find the special pillow in the dark. I was just putting the quarters under his pillow, when he walked in and turned on the light. He went straight for his tooth pillow which was on his dresser. Who puts teeth anywhere but under their pillows? When he found his tooth I told him that the tooth fairy must have wanted him to keep his tooth which lead to a slew of lies about why his money was under his pillow instead of in his football pillow. He ended the conversation with, "I know you put it there, mom." I decided not to comment and just give the situation some space.

Last night as I was saying goodnight he said, "I know the tooth fairy was you mom, you didn't go to the bathroom. But, thanks for the money!" I probably have messed him up for life, now that he thinks his mom lies to him.

Santa is only next as just last week we had to explain to him why the Easter Bunny didn't come to our house.

Oh gosh! We did that last year- totally forgot to leave money from the tooth fairy...I totally told some lie and talked her into trying "one more time" the next night!!

You should have just gone with the tooth fairy had the night off. You know, doesn't work on Sundays or something like that. I'm sure he'll be fine.

The end of an era for sure. We're still holding out on all things mythical. So far so good, but I'm pretty sure Savannah has her doubts about all of them. He'll be fine!! You're not the first mom who's missed the tooth fairy.
