Bed Making 101

A couple of months ago, I decided that I needed to do better at teaching my kids to do basics jobs around the house. Do I really need to make 5 beds everyday? Our unwritten marriage rule is that whoever is the last one to get out of bed makes it. So in the last 8 years, Al has made the bed what, 3 times? Also, AJ is able to make his own bed with a certain amount of coaxing. That adds up to 5 beds for me everyday.

Every morning after everyone is bathed and dressed, we do rooms. I figure if put in the time now, later it will payoff. There doesn't seem to be much improvement so I have been a little skeptical. I was surprised this morning when one of the beds had been made without any coaxing and assistance. Who's bed was it? Abby's. My child that is the youngest of the 4, has therapy twice a week, and actually has an excuse not to get the concept. She was so proud that she had done it all by herself.

This mothering game is turning out to be more like gambling than I thought. You never know when you will hit it big or go home with empty pockets (or just pockets with crumbs, used tissues, and broken hair things).

May I just say your quote about mothering is like gambling is just priceless. I'm putting it down in my favorite quotes. I equate to to Kinley's messy diapers. Sometimes it smells terrible but turns out not so bad and then you get the real surprises when it doesn't even smell but looks like throw up...which one is the jackpot again???

What a cutie. I miss Abby hugs and her mostly quiet sweet spirit. You're one lucky lady.

Classic! My little Nicole likes to try to make her bed and she is also very, very proud of herself when she does it. Also, motherhood is like gambling-RIGHT ON!!

I am constantly amazed at your numbers. 5 beds a day, 39 months of weight, 90 fingers and toes!

Sunshine is a good reason to move down to Texas. The day I found out we were moving down here I had just finished scraping an inch of ice off my windshield. I was so excited when I got to throw that scraper away!!

When do you make the final decision as to where to go? Are you going to be taking a trip down here before you decide? If so, let me know and we'll take a day trip up to San Antonio to say hi!

I am just glad that we are out of the 100 diapers a week game!

100 diapers a week?!! How many kids is that in diapers? Both of ours are in diapers now and we are using cloth (mostly because I think they are super cute). But for Charlotte's first two weeks at home I used disposables. We got the el-cheapo Walmart brand and I thought it was a ridiculous amount of money to spend on something that would be pooped on.

Seriously, for 9 months we had four kids in diapers. For part of that time, they were in 3 different sizes! We are thrilled to just have one size of diapers at our house now!
