You would think that getting to the elementary school, since with a shortcut it is only a block from our house, wouldn't present a challenge. It did. Here is the recap:
8:53 AM- Pooring Rain. Bundled everyone up in warm rain gear. Loaded up the triple stroller. Gave strict commands to AJ (5) to keep Aly (3) under his umbrella. Realized that the shortcut is grass not cement. Broke out in a huge sweat trying to push the plastic wheels of the stroller (all strollers should be required to have real wheels!) through the mud only to look back and see that both Aly and AJ were headed for puddles. Once I had the stroller to cement ran back to carry the other two through the puddles. Ended up at the school wet, soggy, and sweaty. Dropped Aly off for her preschool assessment. Went home using same tactics.
11:05 AM- Thought I would be smart and drive this time. Loaded up all the kids in the burb, just to find out the battery was dead. Got the stroller back out and made the trek again. Luckily, the rain had stopped and it was just muddy. Picked up Aly and headed home. Thought I would try to be smart again and took the long, paved way home. The trek was too long for freshly potty trained Caleb, and he peed in the driveway.
12:47 PM- Time to take AJ to kindergarten. Not going to take the stroller again. Tell the four younger kids to squeeze into the wagon. This time instead of pushing 90 pounds, I am pulling 120 pounds through the mud. Bribed with cookies, everyone sits quietly for the ride. Got home exhausted.
3:25 PM- Mom can't pull or push anyone else today and since the ground has dried up a little, makes everyone walk to pick up AJ. Jake (1) is a little unsure that learning to walk by himself this week was his best choice.
The most exciting part of it all is that Caleb has his preschool assessment tomorrow, I am praying for sunshine!
